Decide

SimMon is a simulated patient monitor for basic medical simulation – Dr. Jon Gatward’s MobileSim website and "Guerilla Sim. Anytime. Anywhere. Anyone." podcast does a great job of explaining mobile medical simulation.

Install

Download the SimMon app to the two devices you want to use - using the same AppStore account on both devices enables you to download SimMon to all your devices at no additional cost.

Connect

Turn on WiFi or Bluetooth and start SimMon on both devices. On the device you are want to use as a remote, press "Use as remote control". Leave the other device at the main menu. A list of devices with SimMon apps that can be controlled will appear. Press the name of the iPad you want to use as a monitor.

Simulate

The monitor appears with everything disabled. As the students attach monitoring equipment to the patient press, sat, blood pressure to activate the readings. When the three lead ECG leads are attached press on the waveform area left of the numerical readings to activate traces as well.

Installing SimMon

How do I get SimMon on to my other devices?
Download the SimMon app to both devices - using the same AppStore account or Play Store account on both devices enables you to download SimMon to more than one device at no additional cost.
What devices do you support?
All devices that have the latest iOS installed. And most newer Android devices.
My iOS device does not run the latest iOS version, can I use it?
No. Existing users can use older iOS devices that can not run the latest iOS version - you can however only pair them with other older devices.
Can I remote control SimMon on Android from an iOS phone?
No. SimMon apps works with other SimMon apps running on the same platform - e.g you can not remote control iOS devices from Android devices.

Buying SimMon

Is SimMon available for other platforms than iOS?
There is an Android version.
Can I try SimMon before buying?
Yes you can. Promo codes for the iTunes AppStore are available by sending an e-mail to our support. We’ll send you a promo code as long as the are available from Apple.
Can I issue my staff redeem codes?
Yes, if you use Apple Business Manager and Apple School Manager your staff can then use the redeem codes you buy for them in the iTunes AppStore to download SimMon without using their own credit card.
Do you offer education discounts?
Yes, use Apple School Manager to receive a reduced price on volume purchases for qualifying institutions. All vetting of educational instututions is done by Apple.
Do you offer volume discounts?
Yes, if you use Apple Business Manager and Apple School Manager you will get a discount on volume purchases when buying more than 20 licenses. Apple manages volume discounts.

Using SimMon

How do I connect the remote to the monitor?
To connect the two devices turn on WiFi or enable Bluetooth on both devices.
Start SimMon on both devices. On the device you are want to use as a remote, press "Use as remote control". Leave the other device at the main menu. Wait for a couple of seconds using WiFi and a bit longer if using Bluetooth. A list of other SimMon apps that can be controlled will appear. Press the name of your iPad.

How can I use Peer-to-Peer WiFi on iOS?
Disable bluetooth on both devices and turn on WiFi. Disconnect from any connected WiFi networks using "Forget this network" in WiFi settings. On all newer devices that will allow the devices to communicate directly using peer-to-peer WiFi. If your device has a Lightning port, you are good to go.
Why are all the tachycardias rendering as NSR?
All tachycardias render as NSR below 100 bpm. Raise the heart rate to above 100 bpm.
Why can I not see other devices to remote control on Android?
Make sure that SimMon has permission to do precise location services which allows the devices to find each other for near-by networking. Make sure that location services are not disabled for the devices as a whole. If location services are disabled for the device as a whole, this will override any permission given at the application level. Looking at the permissions for the indivudual applications does not reflect the status of the devices wide permissions.
How can I make my own presets?
Creating presets is only available on an iPad.
Swipe left on presets to delete, export or rename. Swipe left the top level "My Presets" to import presets. Whatch this video to get a hang of the basics.
